MYM offers educational programs for young musicians
that expands their access to, and enriches their experience of,
high-quality ensemble music-making, and builds their confidence
both as performers and as future leaders in the community. MYM
supports these programs through the recruitment, commitment
and dedication of experienced conductors and tutors.

MYM takes a leadership role in the development of youth music in Victoria, providing an environment which nurtures young talent and enthusiasm, and encourages an appreciation of musical excellence.

MYM IN 2010
MYM’s remit in 2010 is to strengthen the artistic and financial support of its senior ensembles to ensure that they continue to inspire excellence in young people into the foreseeable future.

BECOME OUR PARTNER
There is no more rewarding form of community investment that an enlightened individual or company can make than in improving the opportunities for young people. The value of MYM extends far beyond helping to create pathways for the development of the next generation of professional musicians - it provides an environment where young people can experience one of the most powerful forms of team work, build their self-confidence and meet similarly-interested peers, many of whom would not otherwise have had the opportunity to partake in music-making at such a high level.

MYM is always keen to discuss support, sponsorship or partnership possibilities. Please contact the General Manager, Chris Clark on 9376 8988 or email mym@mym.org.au for a confidential conversation.

OUR PROUD HISTORY
MYM can date its origins back to 1967 when an enlightened State Government introduced free instrumental tuition into several government schools throughout Victoria, a scheme that was eventually extended. At the same time, the Secondary Schools Concert Committee was formed to provide music students with the opportunity of quality public performances. This committee became the Melbourne Youth Music Council and eventually, the Melbourne Youth Music Council Inc., now known as Melbourne Youth Music.

The Saturday Music program was part of the work of MYM from its very beginning, and is now in the 44th year of operation, providing educational and ensemble performance opportunities for students aged 8 – 25 years. Over this time, each of the Saturday Music ensembles has performed in Melbourne’s most prestigious venues, including the Melbourne Town Hall, Federation Square BMW Edge, Iwaki Auditorium and South Melbourne Town Hall.
