Percy Grainger Youth Orchestra

The PGYO teaches orchestral craft to young musicians
aged 15 to 20. PGYO members explore some wide-ranging
orchestral repertoire, from mainstream symphonic to
modern works.

Advanced rehearsal and ensemble techniques are learnt in weekly rehearsals and regular tutorials, fostering and developing young talent at a crucial stage in development.

Each term’s achievements are showcased in regular performances
at prestigious venues such as Melbourne Town Hall and the ABC’s Iwaki Auditorium.

The PGYO program is an excellent complement to individual and school music activities, providing a well-rounded foundation from which to progress to MYO.

Conductor - Stefan Cassomenos

“I joined the Percy Grainger Youth Orchestra and later graduated to the Melbourne Youth Orchestra. It was for me an invaluable experience where I learnt the ropes of orchestral playing and helped me to make the transition from student to professional. I am extremely grateful for the opportunities afforded to me by MYM.”
