The Melbourne Youth Wind Symphony is one of MYM’s most active ensembles, offering players of standard Wind Ensemble instruments a unique and fulfilling large ensemble experience, exploring a diverse range of band repertoire.  The ensemble benefits from tutorials with some of Melbourne’s finest music educators and throughout the year will have the opportunity to perform regularly at venues such as Iwaki Auditorium and BMW Edge in Federation Square as a principal ensemble of the MYM Bands Festival.

The Melbourne Youth Wind Symphony will present three separate concerts as part of the MYM Ensemble Concerts, in three different professional venues across Melbourne.

at BMW Edge, Federation Square (Sunday 13 May)
MYM ENSEMBLE CONCERTS at Iwaki Auditorium, ABC Southbank Centre (Sunday 19 August) 
MYM GALA CONCERT at Dallas Brooks Centre (Saturday 10 November)

The Melbourne Youth Wind Symphony will participate in two separate extension activities in 2012:
MYM BANDS FESTIVAL at BMW Edge, Federation Square (Sunday 3 June)
MELBOURNE SCHOOL BANDS FESTIVAL at Robert Blackwood Hall, Monash University (Date TBC)
AUSTRALIAN ARMY BAND MELBOURNE WORKSHOP at Simpson Barracks (Saturday 15 September)

2 - Rick Plummer 150 x 200RICK PLUMMER Conductor

Adelaide born Conductor, Trumpeter and Music Educator, Rick Plummer, began playing with the Campbelltown Brass Band at age 8, receiving lessons from his father.  During his time with the band, Rick won many solo Brass competitions before receiving a music scholarship to Marryatville High School, before studying Trumpet and Conducting at Flinders Street School of Music and the Elder Conservatorium of Music.

Rick’s professional engagements have included working with the Australian Army Band Adelaide, Elder Conservatorium Wind Ensemble, Elder Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra, the Adelaide Youth Orchestra, as Director of Bands at Cabra Dominican College, Band Director at Wilderness Girls School, Conductor at Marryatville High School, Conductor at the South Australian State Music Camp, as well as acting as a Board Member of the Ross Irwin Invitational All Star Big Band.

As a young conductor, Rick has had the privilege to be mentored by Bob Hower, Bill Broughton, Gordon Lambie and Carl Crossin.  In 2008, Rick moved to Melbourne to take up his current position as Coordinator of Brass at St Kevin’s College, Toorak and has been Conductor of Melbourne Youth Wind Symphony since 2010.
