MAKING A DONATION
Melbourne Youth Music is endorsed by the Australian Taxation Office as a deductible gift recipient under the Income Tax Assessment Act. As a registered charitable institution, Melbourne Youth Music is able to accept tax-deductible donations from generous individuals in the community, which are managed by a sub-committee of the Board of Management. Public funds are allocated through a number of annual scholarships and bursaries which assist with the development of young musicians and to support families who are experiencing financial hardship. A significant barrier to participation in music education for some young musicians is the cost of enrolment and instrument purchase. With your support, MYM can remove financial barriers often associated with participating in a music education, providing free instruments and tuition to students who will benefit both socially and musically by attending our program.
SPREADING THE WORD
MYM programs seek to raise the status of music education in Victoria with a view to having a positive impact on the quality of music in schools and the community; ensuring access, equity, engagement and participation for all students, through the provision of specialist teachers, facilities, equipment and targeted support. Our MYM community play an important role in valuing and supporting the music education of students. You can support MYM programs and events by recommending us through word of mouth to your family and friends, fellow students and through your school community. This way you can help us to ensure that a high quality music education is available for all students in Victoria.
BECOMING A VOLUNTEER
The MYM community are encouraged to play a support role in our programs
as volunteers. Through this assistance in kind, MYM can keep running costs (and therefore enrolment fees) low. Volunteers act as ushers at concerts, provide additional student supervision at rehearsals and fill various administrative support roles in the MYM office. Any level of commitment, no matter how small or large, is appreciated and there are so many ways in which you can get involved - no matter what skills you can bring, we can find a role to suit.
ATTENDING A CONCERT
Throughout the year MYM ensembles have a range of performance opportunities in some of Melbourne’s great performing arts venues and are a highlight in the MYM calendar for students. Not only does your attendance at these events support and encourage our young musicians, but strong community attendance at our events helps to create public awareness of youth in a positive light. Proceeds from tickets sales are reinvested in the program, helping us to purchase new equipment and cover core operational costs such as venue hire and personnel.
JOINING THE MYM ASSOCIATION
As an incorporated association, MYM is required to maintain a membership that is representative of our stakeholders, including parents, students (18 years of age or older) and other community members. By becoming a member of the association, you will have the opportunity to provide feedback and have input into the future direction of our programs. You will be provided with a copy of our Annual Report and audited accounts and will be able to attend our Annual General Meeting, giving you entitlement to vote on the election of Board Members and office bearers as well as other special resolutions that effect the ongoing growth and development of MYM.
